NEW!
One room first.
I was going to carry on with the basement this weekend, but I ended up working upstairs. I've decided to get a bedroom ready so I can start staying here. The chair and the rest of the junk downstairs will have to wait.
I'm losing quite a bit of time driving back and forth. Yesterday I got here and realized I'd left something I needed behind. By the time I'd gone back for it and got started, it was nearly lunch. If I'm living here, I can do a little after work as well. I'd like to get more done before it gets really cold.
I picked the smaller bedroom upstairs because both windows close properly, and the door shuts properly too. The wallpaper is still in reasonable shape. I did find a loose corner and nearly started pulling at it, but I've left it alone. I don't want to end up repairing plaster before I can put a bed in there.
Cleaning took most of Saturday. There was a piece of carpet in the closet that smelled awful, so that's gone. The floor underneath looks much like the rest of the room. I scrubbed it and left the windows open for a while, and it smelled better when I came back today.
I've got a portable electric construction heater for now. With the bedroom door shut it warmed the room up enough that I took my coat off while I was working. The hallway was still cold. I think it'll be all right for getting settled in, although I don't know what it'll cost to keep using it.
I need to get the chimney swept and checked before I use the fireplace. It would be nice to have a fire downstairs in the evenings, and I'm hoping that'll save some electricity once I'm here more often. It's another job I meant to have sorted out by now.
There's room for the bed now, so I'll bring that and some clothes next trip. I also need to bring enough kitchen stuff to make breakfast, and a can opener. I brought two cans of soup over early on and still haven't remembered anything to open them with.
I'd hoped to be further along by November. I'll try staying a few nights this week and see how it goes.

Getting one room clean makes a difference. Somewhere you can shut the door and stop looking at everything that needs doing. Get curtains too, even cheap ones.
